Alone Across the Arctic
Thursday, March 18th
6:30-8:00 p.m.
Picture yourself on an ice-bound journey so demanding that physical strength is not enough. To succeed you’ll also need survival skills, courage, determination, and the ability to control and motivate a team of sled dogs.
Pam Flowers and her Alaskan huskies undertook this challenge, enduring darkness, isolation, cold, one of the stormiest winters on record, a polar bear encounter, and melting, flooding sea ice. They traveled 2,500 miles across Arctic America, completing the longest solo dog sled expedition by a woman in recorded history. At the end of a nearly year-long trip, Pam’s loyal team of eight dogs all returned home healthy and happy.
This remarkable adventure story is sure to fascinate all ages. Pam will recount her experience firsthand, share slides, and sign copies of her books Alone across the Arctic, Big Enough Anna, and Douggie.
